SNL

This week I saw a Saturday Night Live skit about two sons playing a Wii game with their father that made them look like they were masturbating. The Men have to shake the Wii controller up and down to beat the game and when they do they hold it between their legs so it looks like they are pleasuring themselves. Then the mother comes down to see what they are doing and the father says that she would be a “natural,” at it. The entire skit is implying that men have dirty minds and are concerned with masturbating all the time. It shows that not only male children like to pleasure themselves but so do adult males. It makes it seem like it’s something that all guys do all the time and that they are just concerned with sex. It’s not a game about how a woman pleasures herself it’s a game about how a guy pleasures himself so it is a definite shot at males. The skit kind of demoralizes women right at the end when it shows the mother playing the game. The father tells his boys that she should be a pro at it implying that she does it all the time (pleasures him). Now that I think about the skit it is pretty disgusting but when I first saw it I thought it was pretty funny.

Cheetos Commercial

This week i watched a Cheetos commercial. In the commercial there was a young lady sitting at a table outside of a restaurant and at another table is an older woman. The younger woman is dressed all in pink and she has a few shopping bags around her. The older woman is reading a book and eating her Cheetos. Both of the woman are alone. The younger woman is on a phone call with someone gossiping about how she is on the ugly side of town and then goes on to talk about her night at a club. The older woman hears the younger woman talking about how she is on the ugly side of town and throws Cheetos under her table and birds attack the younger woman. I think this commercial is showing that all young women like to shop and wear pink. It shows that young women love to gossip and that they are all stuck up and think that they are pretty. The commercial also shows older women as a mature version of women. She is dressed more conservatively and kept to herself while she read her book. Overall i think that this commercial shows the different stages of maturity in a woman's life and it showed it in a funny and entertaining way.

Godaddy.com Commercial

During the Super Bowl i saw a commercial for godaddy.com that stuck out to me. The commercial was promoting the website by showing beautiful women in a court hearing about using "enhancement." The commercial was referring to enhancing websites using the services that godaddy.com offers but it was intended to sound like they were talking about breast enhancement. All of the women had large breasts and they were wearing tight shirts to show them off. They were also all smiling throughout the entire commercial despite being in court, a place that generally does not make someone happy. This commercial was implying that the idea of a pretty woman includes large breasts and smiles with perfect teeth. I think that it was also implying that woman may not be as intelligent as men because they were being tried by a number of male judges. There was not one female judge in the court and all of the girls lawyers were men. I think that this commercial is degrading to women and even though it very effective in promoting the company it is wrong. Not all women have to have large breasts or dress in tight clothes to be beautiful. They are definately smart enough to become lawyers and judges, just look at Judge Judy.
